BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Visit Florida is facing a $26 million budget cut, which means the organization is making some very significant adjustments to its operations.

One of those adjustments being closing the Welcome Center off Highway 231, which Bay County Tourist Development Council officials say is vital to Panama City Beach and surrounding counties.

So Visit Florida is asking the TDCs in Northwest Florida if they could operate the Welcome Center as a Regional Welcome Center.

The Bay County TDC is looking into the possibilities of how they could keep it open since they feel it greatly contributes to tourism marketing efforts.

The cost to operate the facility would be around $500,000 a year.
