WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Walton County tourism officials say this year's spring season was busy, and they have the numbers to prove it.

According to the Walton County TDC, the bed tax showed a 17.85 percent increase in South Walton in April compared to the year before. In January, officials say the tax collection was $2.05 million, another increase.

“Our two spring months tend to balance each other and can switch based on when Easter falls,” South Walton Director of Communications David Demarest said. “It’s normal for one to be down and the other up, so to be up in both March and April is really impressive. I think it shows the growing strength of our shoulder seasons, which is crucial for supporting Walton County’s year-round economy.”

Officials say in March, there was an increase of 2.4 percent compared to last year.
