Local lawyers recognized for pro bono work

FLORIDA (WJHG/WECP) - The Florida Bar is recognizing 22 lawyers with the Florida Bar Pro Bono Award for their work on behalf of low-income and disadvantaged clients. Three of these outstanding lawyers our from our very own area.

The Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Service Awards were established in 1981 to encourage lawyers to volunteer free legal services to those who cannot afford legal fees. They recognize those lawyers who make public service commitments and aim to raise awareness of the volunteer services lawyers can provide to the public.

The three attorneys from our area receiving the award are Nancy Lynn Carty Hartjen of the 1st Judicial Circuit, Jennifer LaVia of the 2nd Judicial Circuit, and Julie K. Maddalena of the 14th Judicial Circuit.

The ceremony will take place on February 7 at the Supreme Court of Florida.

Julie Maddalena is an attorney in the 14th Judicial Circuit.
