1A Port St. Joe set to travel north Friday to play 4A Rutherford
It's back to the field of play this week for Greg Jordan and his Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks. The Sharks with a bye week last week, they come north Friday to take on another Bay County team, Rutherford.
The Friday before last the Sharks took care of business against 5A Bay. That ending in a 27-0 shutout win.
So once again St. Joe will be "playing up", in fact this will be a third game against a 4A team or higher in the four they will have played by Friday.
"With a 1A roster we'll dress 24-25 kids this week, we have to be smart on how we play our kids, and when we rest them." Port St. Joe head coach Greg Jordan told me Tuesday afternoon. "And how we build our teams around those kids and we have to be able to get some rest some time. So we have to be real careful in how we play our kids. And conditioning is a big factor in that so they are able to stay out there and play."
So far coach Jordan and his staff have put together a winning recipe with this team, even against 4A Marianna and 5A Bay, and it's safe to say the coach, with a few exceptions, really likes the way his team is playing.
"Right now the strength of our team is probably our defense. The kids are running to the ball and doing the things that we ask them to do on the defensive side of the ball. And offensively we've had some big plays, but we've had some inconsistency. So as far as what our team is doing the best, I would say at this point, is running to the football and playing defense."
Again that game Friday night set for Bozeman's stadium, a 7 o'clock kickoff. And it's one of several we'll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
