Sneads volleyball set to go after seventh state title

There is an area volleyball team back on the floor, working in advance of the start of the 2019 season, and thinking perhaps, about number 7!

Sneads volleyball team works towards the start of a new season, and a shot at 7 state titles in a row

All 1A volleyball state titles since 2012 have come back to Sneads! So another playoff berth, and state title run this fall would mean 7 in a row for the Pirates.

And continuing the success from 2017 to 2018 a bit more remarkable given the coaching change the program went through. Veteran head coach Sheila Roberts went east to Tallahassee. In stepped a young coach by the name of Heather Brinkmeier, in her first gig as a head coach.

They didn't miss a beat, a 24-5 record and that 6th consecutive state championship. Yet the new coach still not ready to take much of the credit for all that!

"I never give myself any credit because I feel like I walked into a fortunate situaton." coach Brinkmeier told us. "And I've learned so much in the past year. I really feel like this year will be the first year that I really took the wheel and did things my way instead of trying to mimic things that they've done in the past."

The coach continued "I kind of want to still be my own person. So we have busted our butts this summer. And some of the girls that have even played for coach Roberts this is the hardest summer that they've had. So I hope, I pray it's gonna pay off. They're definitely in conditioned and physically ready. It's just working on the ball handling side of it."

Sneads opens that 6 time defense of the championship Tuesday at home against Chiles.
