Area 1A teams prepare for first North Florida playoff within S.S.A.C.

For some area high school football teams this week begins a shot at winning a title! This week the inaugural Sunshine State Athletic Conference playoffs begin, North Florida style.

A dozen area 1A teams prepare for the start of the S.S.A.C. playoff this week.

The S-S-A-C a grouping of a dozen area 1A football teams, who will play in a round robin tournament, three games in three weeks each, to determine their own champ, in advance of the state playoffs beginning.

The games to come count on a team's record, and towards the accumulation of points to qualify for the 1A state playoffs.

The top 8 teams, with Blountstown the top seed, playing for the title, Baker finishing second in the seedings, followed by Sneads and Graceville respectively. All that based on the first 7 games they've all played.

Here's what the bracket for the top 8 look like, these teams all eligible to win the title, top seeded Blountstown hosts 8 seed Cottondale. Two seed Baker hosts Jefferson. Third seed sneads hosting Port St. Joe and the four seed Graceville hosting Vernon, those two played just a few weeks ago.

The other two games this Friday, Liberty at Holmes, Franklin at Wewa.

Here's the Yellow Jackets head coach Gerald Tranquille on the whole idea of this North Florida playoff.

"It kind of goes back to the old district championships that you used to have in the past back when I played. It gives the kids something to play for. And it actually can help boost your schedule because you know you're gonna play some of the better teams, if you finish in the top 8. So the kids are excited about it, and I've talked to some of the other coaches around the area and they're excited about it. And we hope it's nothing but positive that comes out of it."

After this Friday the four winners play in the semi's, the title and runner up game played the week after that at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City.
