Hyannisport, MA (WJHG/WECP) The game of baseball has once again provided Arnold alum Lucas Dunn the chance to travel the world!
Arnold alum Lucas Dunn back in Cape Cod after three week stint with Collegiate National Team
Dunn, who just finished up his sophomore year at Louisville, was tabbed to play on the Collegiate National Team. That team playing 14 games between July 2nd and the 21st, this past Sunday.
From facing Cuba in North Carolina, and then teams in Taiwan and Japan, it was quite an experience for Lucas, who flew back to Massachusetts all day Monday and part of Tuesday! I spoke with Lucas by phone Tuesday night.
"Just from a culture side to start, we were in Taiwan and Japan that was awesome." Lucas told me "And then getting to meet the teammates and coaches I had, the top players in the country it was great experience. And I made a lot of cool friendships that I'll keep forever."
So Lucas going from an extended college season, he and the Cardinals playing in the College World Series, then to the Cape Cod league, then to the far east and back.
I asked Dunn if he's feeling a bit of baseball fatigue at this point?
"My body feels fine jus because I've been playing and I'm in baseball shape. But I'm down like 20 pounds from when I started the season. And I've been...I don't think I've had more than three days off of a game since February, so it's definitely been a long season. But that's kind of the lifestyle and that's what I'm hoping to get used to."
Lucas, who like his mother, has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Germany, played for the German national team while in high school, and traveled overseas for that as well. He says this time around it was different, mainly because the level of competition involved.
Lucas says he was especially proud to wear the red white and blue and represent the U.S. on the diamond. He will spend another week or so in the Cape Cod league, then head back to campus in Louisville.
