This weekend was, quite literally, a banner weekend for Arnold High School with girl power on full display.

A day after the girls weightlifting team earned the 1A state championship, freshman Henlee Haynes won a girls wrestling state championship in the 184 pound class in Orlando.

Haynes secured four pins in the tournament, stopping Stephanie Villalobos of South Dade in the second period in the first round Friday, Shanette Powell of George Jenkins in 16 seconds in Saturday's quarterfinal, Klarissa Appiah of Mantanzas in the first period of the semifinal, and winning the final by pin against Skyy Gowan of Dr. Phillips in the second period.

Arnold coach Wes Carlisle says Haynes is the first female wrestler to win a state championship at AHS and first freshman to win the girls state tournament.
