PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Arnold High School baseball head coach Greg Gumm will not be retained for next season.
Gumm told NewsChannel 7 he was informed of the school's decision Friday, with the school confirming the decision in an official statement on Sunday evening.
Taking over the program in summer 2014 from John Hardin (KY), Gumm led the Marlins to a 83-56 record with five straight winning seasons.
"I am very pleased with what our program achieved," Gumm said. "We had several guys go on to play college baseball. The future should be bright as we started several underclassmen this year."
The Marlins went 3-6 in 2020 prior to the pandemic.
Principal Britt Smith confirmed AHS will conduct a nationwide search for a new head coach, focusing on candidates that can fill another position on the school's staff.
"Ideally, our desire is to have a new coach hired who is also an employee at the school," the statement reads.
"We appreciate the work Coach Gumm put into the development of our baseball program and its facilities during his tenure as head coach."
