PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL (WJHG/WECP) It may be early in the high school volleyball season, but no doubt the teams of Arnold and Mosley will be ready to go full-tilt come Tuesday evening.
The Marlins volleyball squad, under the guidance of new head coach Madison Wichterman, will host coach Mask and her Mosley Dolphins in a 6 o'clock match Tuesday.
Arnold splitting its first two matches this season, winning at Rutherford, losing at Chiles. Mosley's also split two, beating Bay, falling to Niceville, both those matches at home.
Given the recent history of this series, well it is safe to say things will really ratchet up Tuesday night!
"It's such a deep rivalry, even more so now because both programs are so competitive." first year Arnold head coach Madison Wichterman told me Monday afternoon. "And you know previously, you could kind of predict who was going to win. But both programs have really just excelled so much, and grown so much that you never know who is going to win, anytime you go out on the court. And that's what makes it such a great rivalry. I know the girls are really excited, they know it's gonna be a good game."
Coach Wichterman knows all about this rivalry, having played in it many times as an Arnold player. Now she gets to experience this rivalry from a coach's perspective.
"I'm really excited about it. As a player I always knew that there was so much more added to it. So I think I can bring as a coach because I know that feeling. I've been in that situation, I've been so excited, so passionate, especially in this game. And that's something I can share with the players, you know, how to kind of level everything out."
These two split their regular season matches last year, with each winning on the other team's home floor. Arnold then won their meeting in the district championship. Mosley came back to win their meeting in the state playoffs.
