Arnold preparing for biggest road trip of the season

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL (WJHG/WECP) Call it the start of a very big week indeed for the Arnold program. Coach Josh Wright and his Marlins, coming
off a win Friday over Pensacola, a shutout win at that.

The Marlins now 4-3 overall but more importantly 2-1 in district play with the loss to Bay, the wins over Mosley and PHS.

This week, coach Wright takes his team on the road over to West Florida, which so far has been the class of 5A-district 2. The Jag's are 5-2 overall, and 2-0 in district, with blowout wins over Mosley and last week, over Bay.

"Yeah it's great." Arnold head coach Josh Wright told us during practice Monday. "We've been able to build some momentum with a three game winning streak, get ready for the biggest game of the year. They're all important but none bigger than this. West Florida is the opponent and the one that we've wanted to beat for a long time. They're the ones you've got to go through to be a district champion. We know that, so all our eyes are on West Florida and what they do and they're pretty good at what they do."

Arnold you would have to say, the underdog going west Friday. If they can pull off the upset though, they will do no worse than a three way tie for first in that district.

Coach Wright though isn't expecting anything to be easy come Friday, especially in terms of dealing with a high powered West Florida offense that's averaging better than 35 points per game.

"West Florida's so good because they believe firmly in the run and they get behind their pads. They're very sound in what they do. It's an older school mentality of an offensive set that they use predominantly with a three back set in essence. That being said they will out of it. They do play-action out of all that and they throw the ball very effectively and efficiently to some very big impact players in number 2 and number 5. Those guys go make plays and that's how they maintain the balance of their offense."

If the Marlins can pull off this tough road win, they'll do no worse than a share of a first place tie atop that district. This one of many games we'll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
