Arnold's hosting Choctaw in first round of state playoffs

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - The first round of the state playoffs for boys soccer begins Wednesday night.

On that side of things, Arnold beat Mosley in last week's district title match, so they are the champions of 3A-2 and get to host their region quarterfinal Wednesday.

That will come against Choctaw, so teams from Choctaw making back to back trips to Gavlak over the next two nights.

The Marlins are 15-4-1 this season and are taking a six game win streak into the playoffs.

"Six in a row, yeah," Jonathan Hammond, Arnold boys soccer coach said. "So we lost one coming out of Christmas break, but since then we've been playing really well. We've had a rough start to the season. A lot of injuries, a lot of people not healthy. So yeah, we're hitting our stride right now towards the end. It helps having all 11 starters back. We did lose one of our leading goal scorers in the Mosley game, Mason Rodriguez, but we've just came together as a team and it just took a little while for us to gel."

Choctaw and Arnold play Wednesday night at 7. Mosley travels to West Florida for their match.

In 2A, South Walton, the district one runner up travels to FSU. And in 4A, Niceville, the champs of district one, host leon.
