ORLANDO, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - An accomplishment to flip out about: Bay High competitive cheer returns from nationals with heads held high, placing in the top 20 in a field of more than 800 teams at Wide World of Sports.
Bay earned sixth place in the Gameday Division on Friday and made the semifinals on Saturday, placing in the top 20 overall with their traditional Small Varsity tumbling routine.
The trip to Orlando and the accompanying result is the payoff for a long season. Tryouts are held in March with practice beginning in April.
Usually cheerleaders are the ones who voice loud support for the school, but coming off a third place at state a week earlier, the roles have been reversed at Bay recently.
"Right before we left for state, we had a pep rally where everybody came and watched us do our routine before we went off," cheerleader Sydney Gay said. "That was such a great feeling to see they want us to succeed, they want us to do good, and we're representing something bigger than ourselves."
