Blountstown and Sneads set for 4th volleyball meeting this season!

BLOUNTSTOWN/SNEADS, FL (WJHG/WECP) Tuesday marks the second round of the volleyball state playoff matches.
Count Sneads and Blountstown among the area teams getting set to play in that round.

Sneads volleyball team works towards the start of a new season, and a shot at 7 state titles in a row

Sneads, the six-time defending 1A state champions, hosts Blountstown in their 1A region final Tuesday. This will be the 4th meeting between them this season, with the Pirates winning the previous three, all in straight sets. So you'd have to call them the favorites going into Tuesday's match.

Tuesday afternoon I spoke with Sneads head coach Heather Edge about that, and how she's working to keep her players focused on what they should be focused on!

"It's always tough to beat somebody four times, but we go out to every practice preparing for the next team we play." coach Edge told me. "Not any other game, the next game only. We don't look ahead to the end result, what's the next match. We prepare for the one and only that's coming up. We've been practicing very hard, watching a lot of game film, working on our weaknesses and continuing to capitalize on our strengths."

Sneads enters that match with an 18-10 record, and coming off the first round playoff win over Wewa last week.

As for Blountstown, the Tigers are 13-13 following their playoff win over Bozeman last Thursday. Again having lost to Sneads three times this season, Blountstown head coach Leigh Ann Summers has to work on her team's psychological makeup heading into Tuesday. And she's doing that. She also stresses she's proud of her team being in this spot to take a 4th shot at the rival Pirates!

"I think a lot of people didn't expect us to be here this year after losing a great senior class." coach Summers told me Monday. "But I challenged them with a hard schedule, we played up a lot of the year. And we took some losses but we also gained a lot of experience and that experience has helped get us to where we are. With a chance to play for a third trip
to the state semifinals."

Two other area teams are in action Tuesday. Mosley travels to Ponte Vedra in a 5A regional semifinal. North Bay Haven plays at Santa Fe in Gainesville in a 4A regional semi.
