Blountstown looking ahead to trip to West Gadsden for 1A region final Friday
It's just about time for the showdown of area teams in Greensboro, with a 1A region title on the line.
10-1 West Gadsden hosting 9-2 Blountstown Friday night, pitting two of the hottest teams in the 1A class.
It's been seven straight wins for the Tigers, including a 43-to-7 victory over Chipley in round one last Friday.
It's eight in a row for West Gadsden, with a 49-to-40 win over Port St. Joe last week.
The Panthers have a high octane offense, something Greg Jordan and Blountstown are preparing heavily for in practice.
"You know, they're really explosive offensively, score a lot of points. Their quarterback is a run/pass threat, twenty-five hundred yard passer and a 500 yard rusher. They've got two receivers, one with 1,200 yards and one with 800. Running back just got six of seven hundred yards, so they've got playmakers all over the field. Going to stress your defense because they go from sideline to sideline and throw the ball deep a lot. So, it's gonna be a big test for our defense, for sure."
As for the Blountstown attack, that comes at you from a variety of ways, and a variety of players.
"As you move in the playoffs defenses get better. They adjust and try to take things away and. Us, we don't really have a guy that's a thousand yard rusher or a receiver that's a thousand yard receiver. We've got several of the kids that share the load and that's kind of how we want to do, is spread it around. Carriers offensively and our pass receptions and also we try to spread the ball around to limit that possibility of teams shutting us down and taking one player away and crippling our offense."
That game at 7:30 Friday night. We'll have those highlights and the highlights of the Baker at Graceville game in our late news Friday.
