Boats launch at Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic

SANDESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - After an extra day of silence, Baytowne Marina became a little less crowded Friday morning as the 80 boats participating in the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic left the the Destin Pass at 7 a.m.

"It was a spectacular scene," tournament director Adam Alfonso said. "Getting 80 teams to stick with the event after having to slide the schedule back because of choppy seas, and to have those teams wager just under $2 million against each other says a lot about this tournament. From the very beginning when we started getting feedback from the teams they said, 'please push back for us. We listened to them. We've seen great results. All the teams stuck with us throughout the week."

While the tournament teams headed out, the rest of the ECBC staff hosted a kids' fishing clinic with 150 kids showing up to participate.
