Chipley working to improve on 4-5 season

CHIPLEY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The next stop in our tour of area practice fields takes us to the field at Chipley where coach Blake Wilson is working with 37 players, with some of that number eventually dropping down to the JV squad.

Chipley works through week three of fall camp, prepares for kickoff classic

More than two weeks into fall camp and with only three seniors on the squad, a lot of teaching has to be crammed into these final practices leading up to next week's season opener.

One way head coach Blake Wilson has found to expedite that was taking part in an official's scrimmage last Friday night at Cottondale, an event used to train FHSAA officials which doubles in usefulness by giving coaches tape of their players.

"I was kind of hesitant about doing it because it's two weeks in," Wilson said, "but it was actually good for us. We got to see a lot of things that we could correct. The good thing is those things are in our control that we can correct and get better for the [kickoff] classic, and then correct off of that and be ready for the opening game."

Wilson adds with just three seniors, it will be trial by fire this season as the Tigers work to improve on a 4-5 2018 season.

Chipley hosts Northside Methodist Thursday in their kickoff classic. Then play at rival Marianna to open the regular season on the 23rd.
