MARIANNA, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Chipola men's basketball team is off to a perfect 10-0 start, that despite a slew of new faces on hand, and that includes the man leading the way.
After serving six years as a Chipola assistant, Brendan Foley moving up to the head coaching job, and suffice it to say, so far, so good. Ten games, ten wins, with 7 games left this month before Conference play begins in January.
Strong for a team with one returning player, and one kid who redshirted last year.
"But everyone's adjusted well." coach Foley tells us. "We've transitioned well. I think it's a testament to the guys that we have, the character of them, and they have bought in. And just my coaches have been absolutely superb, I'm blessed to have them, they're hear every day for me. Everyone's on the same page, they've all bought in and they want to win, and that makes life a lot easier."
That lone returning player, the only one with any minutes played last season, is sophomore guard Keishawn Brewton out of South Carolina.
"Keishawn has been really good for us." says Foley "And he's bought into the role that I've asked him to step up. It's his sophomore year and being the lone returner to a team that was runner up in the state, he's kind of embraced that. Our team kind of feeds off him. He's got to be the guy that brings the energy and leadership to this team and they respond to him. So he's embraced that role and he's having a great season."
17 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds a game so far for Brewton.
Indians are back at it this weekend with two games in Gainesville, two of seven games left this month before conference play begins in January.
