Chipola coaches lead softball skills camp Monday in PCB

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL (WJHG/WECP) Monday night was a good night for some young softball players from this area and beyond.

Chipola softball coaches Belinda and Jimmy Hendrix helping to run the "College Exposure Skills Camp" at Frank Brown Park Monday.
The camp hosted by the USFA, the organization running summer tournaments in P-C Beach this month.

The USFA folks asked the Hendrix's to bring in other coaches, 16 in all, from Juco, to NAIA and up to D1.

And those coaches helping to run the camp as well, with the idea of the 70 or so kids taking part getting not only top notch instruction, but exposure as well.

"And we're running them through the laser right now, which is home to first, twenty yards." Chipola Associate Head Coach Jimmy Hendrix told me. "We're also doing exit velocity, we're also doing overhand throw. On one field they're doing BP (batting practice). The other field they're doing defensive work. And they're doing it all in front of all the coaches. And then we're gonna come together, when we get done, they're all gonna play in front of the college coaches."

And coach Hendrix says this allows the coaches to be able to scout these girls not just here at Frank Brown, but down the road as well.
