ATLANTA, GA (WJHG/WECP) It is an indication that the college football season isn't that far off!
The Southeastern Conference Football Media Days are under way, starting Monday morning. For the first time, they are being held in Atlanta, instead of in the Birmingham area.
Another first this year, a first visit to the SEC Media Days for Jimbo Fisher, who late last season jumped from Florida State to Texas A and M and the SEC West! Different conference he says, same mission!
"When you get good in your program," coach Fisher said Monday "you don't measure yourself against other people. I want us to understand how you're going to measure yourself against yourself. And the way you work and the way you do things. I mean your opponents become faceless, because tell me who in this league isn't tough? Name me one. That's the way it is. You have to understand who you are and what you want and have the vision of picturing yourself with the championship. Not saying it because the media wants to hear it. Do you really believe it?"
So now going from the ACC to the SEC, Jimbo will be going up against his old pal Nick Saban, for whom Fisher was the offensive coordinator when Saban was the head coach at LSU. Fisher asked if he was excited about that annual match up?
"Yeah you are. Did you ever come to our practices when we were there? We used to go at it hard anyway. No it is, and like I say, he's doing it the best of anyone, and for a long time, maybe the best ever, you don't know. I mean the guy is tremendously successful and if you're a competitor you want to go against the best. You get in the SEC and you go against Nick, you're gonna find out."
Tuesday first year Florida head coach Dan Mullen visits Atlanta, Saban among those taking center stage Wednesday.
