John Palmer returns to coaching, taking Chiefland job
John Palmer is ready to get back on the sidelines, and that is where he will be come spring ball!
Coach Palmer, with the blessing of his doctor and his family, is taking the head coaching job with Chiefland down in Levy County, a little west of Gainesville.
You may remember coach Palmer had to step away as the Sharks head coach in the middle of the 2018 season because of medical concerns.
That ending his second stint as Port St. Joe head coach, the first from 2001 to 2007, the second from 2014 to 2018. He led St. Joe to two 1A state championships, once in each stint, in 2005 and 2014. In 21 seasons as a high school head coach, he has racked up a record of 145-89.
Coach Palmer has coached in Levy County before at Williston and Bronson, and his wife has family down there, so as he put it to me on the phone Tuesday afternoon "the timing for all this was good. I've still got the itch, and I feel like I still have a lot to give in the sport!
