MARIANNA, FL (WJHG/WECP) It will be a busy weekend at the Johnson Center on the Chipola campus.
Coach Greg Franklin his Lady Indians basketball team, with 12 wins in 12 games so far this season, will host a Women's Classic Friday and Saturday, with Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Central Georgia coming in for two games each.
Coach Franklin says this part of a concerted effort to host more games in the non-conference part of the season, partly to allow more familiarity between the players and the Chipola fan base.
"You know one thing we wanted to do this year," coach Franklin told us "both coach Foley and I, we wanted to get more home games, because we do have a great fan base that backs us, big time. And that was one of the things that we said early last spring in scheduling, and things like that, making sure the home people got to see us play, before we got to Conference because then they could identify with the kids a lot better, once we're here. And also they need to see us, because they are so passionate about the sport."
The Lady Indians will host Central Georgia Friday at 7, with Tallahassee, which is 10-0, taking on Jacksonville Friday at 5. Then Saturday at noon, it will be Tallahassee and Central Georgia, and Chipola will host Jacksonville at 2.
