Mosley baseball chasing state championship in Fort Myers

Mosley prepares to chase a state title in Fort Myers starting Friday (WJHG/WECP).

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Mosley baseball team got an early start Wednesday morning, loading up the bus around 8:30.

Just before hitting the road, the head coach took some time to think about the days following the storm, and how remarkable making this trip to state is.

Head coach Jon Hudson said, "Yeah it’s hard to imagine, came to days after the storm, looked at the field and really didn’t think, I honestly didn’t think we were gonna be able to get on the field at all. It just looked like a swamp and the water was going nowhere. And the devastation that was everywhere around the field, yeah you dream about getting to this position after all that happens. But it’s a beautiful field now and everything has come back now and we bounced back well it is awesome.”

The team made a stop for lunch along I-10 then it was into Gainesville and a light workout on the baseball diamond at Buchholz High School.

Blake Vineyard, a Mosley Senior Infielder said, "It’s very special to us, we’ve worked so hard, throughout the hurricane. Started a little later than usual. And it just means the world to us.”

Hudson added, "We’re still a little bit away from the ball game, we have two games to go. I’m glad to see they are not bouncing off the walls right now, They know that we’ve still got time. So enjoy the trip, on the way down there. And Friday morning it’s business!”

After the short practice the team was back on the bus for the rest of the trip into Fort Myers.

The agenda there after check-in, a team dinner and eventually bed check, with another workout in Fort Myers set for Thursday.

The game against Dunedin Friday at 10 a.m.
