NJCAA pushes back basketball National Tournaments

PANAMA CITY, FL (WJHG/WECP) To say the least, it is an ever-changing sports landscape these days, and those changes are having some dramatic effects on local student athletes, especially those on the junior college level. All due to the coronavirus scare that is gripping our nation.

Case in point, Thursday the governing body of juco sports in the country, the NJCAA made the decision to postpone, not cancel, but postpone its mens and women's basketball National Tournaments.

On the ladies side of things, that affects both Northwest Florida and Gulf Coast who finished one and two in both the conference and state fights, with the Lady Raiders winning both titles.

The idea is to push back the Division One tournaments from the week starting March 16th, to a tentative start date of Monday, April 20.

The official release from the NJCAA states the organization has "two main objectives...to protect the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, college personnel, and fans. Second to make sure our student-athletes receive the national championship experience that they have worked so hard for."
