Niceville's Bryant crowned 2A state weightlifting champ

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Day one of the state weightlifting championships at Arnold featured lifters from larger school in the 2A class.

The podium at day's end featured a Panhandle lifter.

Competing against opponents from all over the state, including locals Fort Walton Beach, Niceville's Melaina Bryant put on a show in the 199 pound class.

Bryant upped 210 pounds on the bench, combined with another 180 pounds on the clean and jerk, a total of 390 pounds to claim the class championship by 25 pounds over the closest competitor.

Niceville teammates Courtney Faulkner placed fourth in the 169 pound class, while Ryan giordano finished fourth at 139 with Kelsey Garrison fifth at 129.

As a team, the Eagles placed fourth overall.
