North Bay Haven officially introduces boys basketball coach
The players in the North Bay Haven boys basketball program now know their next head coach.
Athletic director Kevin Jacobs officially introduced Jeremy Deal as the Buccaneers new head coach Wednesday.
Deal, a Holmes County native, went to Bethlehem High School, has coached more than a decade in Middle School, and spent last year as the head coach at Palm Bay High School in Bay County. He takes over a team that went 7-15 last season.
"I hope to build the program," Deal said. "I want to see a lot of kids come out. We've got a lot of kids at the school, so my goal is to get as many kids out as we can. Being 4A basketball, we've got some bigger schools we've got to go against, so the more the merrier in terms of bodies. The kids seem to be excited. I told them I want to play fast, so we're hoping to get that out of them."
North Bay Haven will try to compete in the always tough 4A district 1, that's even gotten a bit tougher this year.
"I think we can be pretty competitive," Deal said. "We don't have a lot of height, we don't have any 6'7", 6'8" kids walking around. But the kids that I have met sees like they have a lot of heart and that's one thing you can't coach. The kids seem like they're hungry to win. They want to play. The schedule sets up for us pretty good. We should be able to compete against the schools we've got (non-district). District is gonna be a little rougher having Pensacola put in, and obviously having Bay and Rutherford in your district is never easy."
The official start of the basketball practice season now just over two months away.
