Northwest Florida sets sights on new goals after clinching 5th straight Conference title

NICEVILLE, FL (WJHG/WECP) With three games to go in their Conference schedule, the Raiders of Northwest Florida already have reason to celebrate. Their 103-84 blowout home win over Pensacola Saturday clinched the conference title. That taking the Raiders to 9-0 in Conference, 23-2 overall.

This now a 5th consecutive conference title for Steve DeMeo and the Raiders! Monday night I asked coach what that says about his program?

"Well it says you have to have a lot of great players, and assistant coaches." Coach DeMeo said "And you have to be lucky to weather the storm of a brutal Panhandle. We've coached against a lot of great coaches, very, very talented players and good teams. And for whatever reason we've been fortunate enough over the last five years to finish at the top of it. You know I'm proud of the accomplishment and it's a credit to my supportive administration. But obviously my assistants, who are in the trenches every day with me, and my players we've had, have bought into what we're trying to put together here."

Coach DeMeo stressing to me his team always starts the season with three goals. The first is to win the Panhandle Conference, the second to win the State Championship. And the third is to go west and win a National Championship. So his team is only one third of the way to where it wants to go.

The Raiders coming east to Gulf Coast Wednesday. Coach DeMeo says his rotation really won't change much, he's already been playing ten players a game, even a half recently. Chipola hosts TCC Wednesday, those two fighting for that second place spot.
