For three area teams, the Thanksgiving holiday week is also a work week.

Three area teams still practicing, still hoping for a football state championship as they play third round playoff games this week.

Crestview on the 6A level, Vernon and Port St. Joe in the 1A class. For the latter, coach Jordan and his Sharks are getting set to host their region final, or third round game. St. Joe with the luxury of playing, in fact, at home for all three games. A 69-0 win over Liberty, followed by the hard fought 17-12 win over Blountstown.

That has them at 10-0 and hosting a 7-4 Jefferson team.

As for working this week, well nobody attached to the team is whining about that!

"We had school on Monday so we practiced in the afternoon." coach Jordan told me Tuesday. "The rest of the week we're gonna practice in the morning times. And then give them some off time after lunch to go do some things. We'll practice Tuesday and Wednesday morning, then have a run-through Thursday morning, right before lunch. Then let them go have Thanksgiving and then I'll bring them in about noon on Friday, get them in and start getting them ready for the game Friday night."

Coach Jordan says they start talking to their players in August about playing through Thanksgiving, and this is the kind of memory, whether they realize it now or not, that will stick with them for a long time.
