Port St. Joe set to hit the road Friday for 1A State Semifinal
It will be a showdown between two undefeated teams Friday when Port St. Joe and Baker meet in the 1A State Semifinals.
St. Joe is coming off the 15 point win over Jefferson last Friday in their region final game. That taking the Sharks to 11-0.
The Gators are also undefeated, a perfect 12-0 following their region final win over Vernon Friday night.
For coach Jordan and company this will be their first taste of playoff football this month, away from home.
"We had our first three playoff games at home." coach Jordan says "We were the one seed in the region, so that worked out well for us. Now it's a points deal in the state semifinals so we have to hit the road. We've been home for three weeks. We had a week 11 game in Tallahassee at North Florida Christian so we have had a road game, but it was a month ago. Our kids have prepared well and we're confident playing on the road, so we look forward to the challenge that playing over there is going to present."
Certainly trying to put the clamps on Baker's star running back Junior Mclaughlin will be one of the priorities for the Sharks defense. He's rushed for over 2,600 yards and 32 touchdowns this season. However coach Jordan says Baker is much more than one star offensive player.
"You know I think we've got to play a clean game, they're not going to beat themselves. They're well coached, their kids are disciplined, we've got to eliminate turnovers and penalties and not help them beat us. It's gonna be tough, they've won 26, or something like that, regular season games in a row. So over two and half years since they've been beaten in the regular season. You know that's for a reason, they've got good players and good coaches, a good program. But we hope we have the same thing and we're going to go over and give it our best shot."
That game Friday set for 7:30, we'll have the highlights in our late news Friday night.
