It seems like deja vu for the Gulf Coast women's basketball program, and to a certain extent, that's what it is.
Ahlana Smith named NJCAA Player of the Year
For the 10th time, a Lady Commodore has been named the NJCAA Player of the Year. Gulf Coast sophomore guard Ahlana Smith getting that recognition this time around
It is the top honor a player can receive in Juco ball.
Smith averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists per game. She finished the season tenth in steals, 4th in total points, second in field goals and second in points per game.
A couple of days ago, Ahlana was named a first team All-American. Smith now becomes the 10th Gulf Coast women's player to win National Player of the Year honors, joining an impressive list that includes Bay alum Tashia Morehead, Kuanda Williams, Andrea Smith, Shayla Bennett among others!
Ahlana has committed to the University of Louisville, so she's bound for ACC play.
