VERO BEACH, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Sneads softball team will play in its first ever
State Championship game come Wednesday.
The Lady Pirates beating Lafayette Tuesday in their 1A semifinal with a run-rule win, 12-1 in five innings.
Marissa Baxter with a strong start, striking out 8 in the five innings, giving up just the one run.
The offense got started early, Michaela Edenfield, the FSU signee, swats a two run homer in the top of the first to put Sneads up 2-0 early.
Two more runs came across in the top of the second, Taylor Reese Howell driving in one with a single to left that and Abby Perkins plated another with sacrifice fly and it was 4-0 Sneads.
The Pirates scored another in the third and 7 more times here in the top of the 5th to ice it. Howell another rbi single. Garret, Glover and Lamphere also driving home runs in that rally as the Pirates win it by 11.
Sneads advancing to their first ever state championship game, with that game coming against now 27-0 Trenton. The Tigers shut out Wewahitchka in the other state semifinal 4-0.
The title game set for 1:35 eastern time at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach. Newschannel 7's Blake Brannon is down in Vero covering that game, and will have a complete wrap Wednesday night at 5, 6 and 10.
