Two of those teams are Port St. Joe and Vernon. The Sharks with a home win over Malone in their 1A region semi Thursday night 54-44. The Yellow Jackets rallying to beat Franklin by two in their game, 66-64. So those two meet in a 1A Region Final Tuesday at Vernon.
That game against Franklin, the first playoff game Vernon's hosted since 2006, so you know the folks there are all fired up about their basketball team.
Head Coach Thomas Register among those folks, though he now has to balance feeling the euphoria of this win, and getting the players to focus clearly on what's next, Tuesday's home game with Port St. Joe in the region finals. Here's what he told us early Friday afternoon.
"There's no doubt there's a lot of emotion involved in that game and ultimately the win. It was very special for the community, the school and for them boys. It was very special. We're gonna get together here in a few minutes, watch a little film, get a little shootaround. Just try and get our juices flowing again. And then tomorrow we're gonna meet up here about 11, have us a little practice, watch a little more film, try to get prepared. And then we'll pick it back up Monday and play the game on Tuesday."
The game with St. Joe Tuesday set for 7 central, same time for the Graceville Paxton 1A Region Final. Choctaw plays a region semifinal Tuesday at Rickards, a 7 eastern time game.
