Christmas is just one day away.
The next day of practice is a little further off for high school athletes, getting a well-deserved holiday break.
Wrestlers, in particular, have earned the time off after a grueling three day stretch to cap off the week and the calendar year of competition.
The slate started with a team competition, the district dual meet hosted by South Walton at Emerald Coast Middle School. Bolstered by Ethan Pickren and Seth Weinthal, the Seahawks placed second to Arnold and earned a spot at dual regionals on January 17th.
First things first--the Seahawks packed up and bolted to New Orleans Friday and Saturday for the Trey Culotta Invitational. Pickren and Weinthal excelled again, with Pickren being crowned champion at 138 pounds and Weinthal placing fifth at 132 pounds.
As for the district champions, Arnold, they quickly regrouped at battled at Fort Walton Beach's Beast of the Beach dual meet Friday and Saturday, along with Bay, Bozeman, Marianna, Mosley, and North Bay Haven.
Although Friday features mixed results, the Marlins went undefeated in the "best of the rest" bracket on day two, with every wrestler on the team now having won at least one match this season.
Dual season ends next month, with individual state championships settled in March.
