Early voting may have gotten off to a slow start in some areas but it's beginning to pick up quickly in Jackson County.
This is the first year early voters will be able to cast their ballots in either Marianna, Graceville or Sneads.
The county consolidated down from 25 precincts to only 14 in 2009 and had enough money saved to open two more early voting sites.
There is one School Board race for the District 5 seat and two County Commission races for District 2 and 4 on the ballot.
So far Jackson County has registered 402 early voters since Monday with 315 voting at the Supervisor of Elections office in Marianna, 45 at Graceville City Hall and 42 at Sneads City Hall.
Jackson County Elections Supervisor Sylvia Stephens says the initial early voting numbers for this year are already higher than in 2008 at this same time.
She believes they will be much busier next week especially with three sites now.
"And any Jackson County voter can go to any one of our early voting sites at their convenience so we're hoping they'll take advantage of it and we'll have a good number turnout for early voting."
The early voting polls will be available until August 21st from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Saturday at all three locations in Jackson County.
