Firefighters respond to blaze at Port Panama City

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)- Some small wood pellets caused some big damage at Port Panama City Monday afternoon.

At around 3:30 Monday afternoon the Panama City Fire Department was dispatched to the Port Authority facility in response to large flames and heavy smoke.

When they arrived they say they found a conveyor belt system on fire.

Officials from the Port Authority say the conveyor belt moves wood pellets onto a ship, and some left over pellets caught fire.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to control most of the fire and at 4:20 fire officials say the scene was contained.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire was electrical or mechanical.

Bay County EMS responded as a precaution, but no one was injured.
