Inmate Reportedly Stabbed in Area Prison

JACKSON COUNTY-- The Department of Corrections is investigating a stabbing in a Jackson County prison facility.

NewsChannel 7 went to Apalachee Correctional Institute Saturday, where facility officials confirmed that an incident involving a stabbing injured an inmate earlier today.

Captain Chad Harrell said he could not comment at the time, but he said the incident is under investigation by the Department of Corrections.

Jackson County Sheriff deputies say ambulances were on the scene after the incident occurred around 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

Early reports say a 22-year-old male was stabbed with an unknown weapon. It's unclear at this time whether he was stabbed by another inmate or if the injury was self-inflicted.
