PANAMA CITY-- A fire destroys a boat in Panama City, but the firefighters' quick response prevented any further damage.
The Panama City Fire Department says at 3:50 Monday afternoon, they arrived on scene of a fully involved fire on a 38-foot boat in the Sun Harbor Marina.
Officials say the owner of the boat was on board when the fire started. He tried to put the fire out, but was unsuccessful.
Panama City Fire says they controlled the blaze in just 24 minutes.
Fire officials say having a fire extinguisher on your boat is key to helping firefighters before they arrive.
"If someone does have a fire on a boat, and they see it in its incipient stage, hitting it with a fire extinguisher and starting the 911 process immediately is very important," explained Gary Swearingen, assistant fire chief of the Panama City Fire Department. "The quicker you can get it started, the quicker we can get here and assist you."
Fire investigators say the fire was accidental, and that an electrical issue sparked it.
