Rep. Matt Gaetz announces run for Florida's 1st District

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - State Representative Matt Gaetz (R - Fort Walton Beach) announced his campaign for United States Congress, in Florida's 1st Congressional District, according to his Facebook page.

A press release from Enwright Consulting Group says Congressman Jeff Miller has decided not to run for re-election.

"I think a lot of people in Northwest Florida recognize that the stakes are very high for the country right now," Representative Gaetz said. "We will either solve the national debt problem, solve the illegal immigration problem and restore America's standing in the world or we will lose this country, and I don't want to see that happen. I am part of a generation that needs to stand up and offer bold conservative solutions."

Representative Gaetz says with his success of balancing budgets in Tallahassee, he hopes to bring those solutions to Washington.

Rep. Gaetz is an attorney from Fort Walton Beach. He represents part of Okaloosa County in the Florida House of Representatives, where he chairs the Finance and Tax Committee.
