Search continues for missing paddle boarder on Okaloosa Island

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE: December 25, 10:20 a.m.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Officials have identified the man who they believe went missing Thursday while paddle boarding near Okaloosa Island.

Sheriff's officials believe 51-year-old John Frye, a paddle board enthusiast from Fort Walton Beach, disappeared in the strong surf on Christmas Eve behind the boardwalk on Okaloosa Island.

The search is on for a missing paddle boarder in Okaloosa County.

According to the sheriff's office, witnesses reported a man paddle boarding behind The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island Thursday morning when he disappeared in the heavy surf.

We're told his paddle board washed ashore sometime around 10:30 a.m. Authorities believe the man to be a 51-year-old paddle board enthusiast from Ft. Walton Beach.

The Coast Guard is currently searching the waters off shore while Okaloosa County Beach Safety crews check the Gulf's shoreline.
