A DeFuniak Springs woman is behind bars after an incident that took place New Year's Day.

Reports state, 50-year old Geraldine Pearce was arrested Thursday on six counts of culpable negligence.

Back on January 1, 2015, Phillip Lieberman was attacked by six dogs who belonged to Pearce.

When Sheriff's officials arrived to Pearce's home, they also found nearly 40 dogs living in unsanitary conditions.

"The Judge is obviously going to determine sentencing and any money she may have to pay. So really at this point we have made the charges and it will be up to the judge at this point, and what is going to happen next for the Pearce family," said Catherine Rodriguez, Public Information Officer for the Sheriff's Department.

The dogs involved in the attack have been quarantine, the other dogs are getting medical attention, and then will be put up for adoption.
