CHIPLEY, FL (WJHG) There is a head football coach in place at Chipley High School. Principal Kyle Newsom telling Newschannel 7 Sports Wednesday afternoon he's going with Blake Wilson as the Tigers next head coach.
Coach Wilson takes over for Chip Harris, who left the program after four seasons at the helm there.
Coach Wilson, a Florida Southern graduate who played juco ball in Mississippi, is very familiar with the program, and the players with him, since he's been an assistant at Chipley for 8 years.
This will be his first head coaching opportunity. He takes over immediately and will guide the off season conditioning and into spring ball.
Newsom calls coach Wilson a "high integrity, high character guy that will give our kids an opportunity to be successful both on and off the field."
The Tigers 5-5 last season with a runner up playoff berth, losing to St. Joe in round one of the playoffs.
