Mexico Beach officials decline to allow contractors to live on property where they work

MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The current ordinance in Mexico Beach only allows for the property owner to live out of a motor home on their own lot. This means that contractors cannot stay on on the property that they are working on.

Several frustrated locals want to see this rule changed.

Susan Kotelman, the President of the Palms Homeowners Association said, "Today we were looking to use our own common area that is owned by our developer so that he can place his workers on his land to rebuild our homes in a much quicker way. It is moving at a much slower pace because there is nowhere for the workers to live."

After bringing up the issue three times, Mexico Beach's Mayor says he will not be bringing up the ordinance again despite his disappointment in the outcome.
