Sgt. Smith, a former Lynn Haven Police Officer, passed away after his home in fountain exploded. His family was also there at the time of the explosion and suffered severe burns. They have been in the hospital since then, but friends and family are getting ready for their return home.

Angel's BBQ in Panama City hosted a fundraiser Saturday at the Walmart in Lynn Haven to make sure Sgt. Smith's family has a place to come home to.

Breston Allyn, a Friend of Sgt. Smith's Family, said, "This is a family in desperate need, not only did Sgt. Smith lost his life, but his family got extremely injured, very high medical bills, there's no way that we can even touch the amount of medical bills they have, we're just hoping we can do a little bit so that it will ease the pain a little."

The Lynn Haven Police Department set up an account at Innovation's bank, where all of the proceeds from the event will be put for the family.
