Attorneys answer housing, family questions for free

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A free legal clinic took place Wednesday afternoon at Bay High school for people wondering about their rights post Hurricane Michael.

According to event organizers, more than 30 attorneys gathered to provide legal advice at no charge.

Some of the biggest concerns were regarding evictions.

Tenants wondered if their landlords are legally evicting them and many landlords who say their buildings are unsafe wondered how to proceed with the eviction process.

Family lawyers were also on hand to address concerns regarding displaced kids.

"You do need to follow the statutes, all of that hasn't gone out the window, but we have a lot of exceptions right now so it would be a good thing to talk to an attorney and find out your particular rights," Local Family Law Attorney Susan Carroll said.

Counselors also attended to provide crisis management advice for those in need.
