PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - After 43 years of public service one of Bay County's commissioners is hanging up his hat.
Commissioner Guy Tunnell announced his retirement effective November 19th. At the end of the commission meeting Tunnell was honored by his fellow commissioners with a slide show spanning his career here in Bay County as a sheriffs deputy ,police chief, sheriff and county commissioner.
He also received an award from the Florida Sheriffs Association for his work on the Model Jail Standards Committee. The commission also gave him a plaque commemorating his work on the Bay County Commission.
His successor Keith Baker will be sworn in at the next county commission meeting.
Commissioner Tunnell describe him like thjs "Kieth Baker , a fine young man, heavy on the young. All these guys are a lot younger , as i heard some of the comments up there i realized you know I'm the old guy in this group. It's time for the old man to ride off into the sunset."
Commissioner Tunnell plans to include a lot of traveling in the immediate future. We wish him the best.
