The board voted to approve a contract for repair and replacement of the damaged field lighting at Hiland Park. Currently, athletes can only play during the day time at the recreational complex.
Commissioner Keith Baker hopes the project will be done by next spring.
"It's going to put these kids back on the field at night. Right now, you know, we're playing during the day time, and so, trying to get these lights back in order is going to help out a lot in the scheduling," Commissioner Baker said.
Also in Panama City, the board authorized the acquisition of property to construct a new road connecting Mill Bayou Road and Titus Road. D&H Properties is the developer on that project.
According to the Bay County Board of County Commissioners Agenda Item Summary, "...D&H Properties would convey the necessary right-of-way in exchange for a forgiveness of D&H Properties, LLC's obligations under a proportionate fair-share agreement with the County..."
"[The developer] agreed to donate future right of way for us to extend a roadway that will connect Titus Road to that development in there to alleviate some traffic. So, the agreement today was just an exchange for the money he already owed the county, is he's giving us 80-foot right of way and some land for stormwater ponds so we can build future roadways," Bay County Commissioner Robert Caroll said.
The Board of Bay County Commissioners obtained the property value and concluded the trade is fair and reasonable.
