PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - It's back to business at the Bay County incinerator.
The Bay County incinerator has reopened after a temporary shutdown. (WJHG/WECP)
After being shut down for about a month and a half beginning in November, the incinerator has finally reopened.
The incinerator's operations manager says the shutdown was a result of a problem with the turbine generator which creates electricity for the Gulf Power grid processed from boiler steam.
While many locals had complained about a fly problem during the shutdown, officials say they believe it is no longer an issue now that the facility is back up and running.
Roy Chance, Operations Manager at the Bay County Waste to Energy facility, said, "the waste that gets picked up in Bay County is normally directed to the facility so we can process it for waste and make electricity with it and when we're shut down it gets diverted to the Steelfield Landfill.">
Smith said operations have returned to normal and you should not experience any changes in your trash pickup.
