BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay District Schools leaders are taking what they learned during Hurricane Michael and using it to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.
The school board voted to advertise a policy change about compensation during a declared emergency.
The district's hope is to train personnel during the summer to work at the district's schools which double as shelters. Shelter personnel would be paid double their regular hourly rate for all hours worked during a declared emergency at their respective shelter.
The district would be reimbursed by Bay County which would get the money from FEMA.
The policy will be advertised for 30 days to give people time to read up on it.
