BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - For the fifth time since 2018, Bay High School students are going back to school.

Today began the distance learning portion of the school year at Bay District Schools, and it's prepared to continue with it as long as needed.

"This is the plan, and we're going to stick with the plan," said Bay High School Principal Billy May. "We don't want to shift gears mid-stream, so once we get it up and running, this will be the tack we take for the rest of the year, as long as we're doing distance learning."

For most students, a laptop and a webcam are their new classrooms. However, there are plenty of BDS students who do not have access to a laptop at home, so the district worked to provide any family that needs one with a Chromebook.

"Not all of our kids had devices, so we gathered up all of the Chromebooks that we had on campus and we are loaning those out. One per home that does have connectivity," said May.

The only requirement to receive a laptop is an internet connection at home and a student login.
