Bay District students show off Panhandle pride with spirit shirts

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Local students showed off their Panhandle pride Wednesday.

Bay District Schools organized a spirit day where students donned their "#850 Strong" t-shirts.

The shirt includes an outline of Florida containing the names of schools, as well as encouraging words such as "teamwork" and "joy."

Waller Elementary School took the spirit day to the next level by standing in the shape of a heart their campus' field.

Marydale Moore, the parent liaison for Waller, spearheaded the effort.

"I thought it might be nice for Waller to come up with some kind of shape to just say 'thank you' to the community for everything they've done, and to make a statement that we are still here, we are not going anywhere and we are resilient," Moore said.

Melissa Gelardos, the owner of Brilliant Tees LLC, who made the shirts, was also in attendance.

"We want them [the students] to know that we're behind them," Gelardos said.

The Nelson Family Foundation sponsored the production of the t-shirts for Bay County children.
